foodRegio Project: CrossFoodPac

The Future of Food Packaging

In recent years, the demands placed on food packaging have steadily risen. On the one hand, packaging must protect products from external influences and damage; on the other, it must keep goods fresh for as long as possible and facilitate transport and storage. At the same time, aesthetic demands have been similarly increasing. Packaging is a means of making products stand out from similar ones offered by competitors and thus gaining loyal customers.

To meet these increasing demands and successfully position food products on the market, it will be essential to develop new products and processes.

The purpose of foodRegio’s CrossFoodPac project is to describe important market trends, predict the functional requirements for food packaging in the future and identify the necessary packaging technologies. The workshops include people in the food and packaging industries as well as consumers.

The workshops are aimed at people employed in Product Development, Quality Assurance and Sales.

CrossFoodPac will make use of roadmapping, a method frequently applied in innovation management. In this project the roadmap will describe packaging requirements in the food industry and point out technologies that can lead to new processes and products.
